I wanted to give my readers an idea of how many items you can actually purchase for a small amount of money. This was our weekly grocery shopping trip to Target. The total amount before coupons was a little over $87. The final cost for me after coupons was $49.44!

I am able to do this partialy because we have a large stock pile of food from couponing. Whenever something is very cheap because of a sale being paired with a coupon, we buy ALOT of it. It is not uncommon to see us come home with 5 jars of peanut butter and 5 jugs of juice. This is why I always recommended printing more than 1 of a coupon. Also this is why I get more than one Sunday paper. It enables me to have access to more than one of a coupon should a fantastic deal arise.
I then compile our weekly menu around store sales and the coupons that we have. A few weeks ago at Target Ortega taco shells were on sale for $1. In the aisle they had coupons they were giving out for $1 off any Ortega item. So I purchased 6 boxes of taco shell, 3 packs of Guacamole mix, hot sauce and taco seasoning. ALL FOR FREE! So we have been having alot of Mexican meals because of that. This week there was a great deal on Kraft shredded cheese. It was on sale for 3 for $5. I had 2 $1/1 coupons from last weeks inserts. This made for some very inexpensive shredded cheese to use for cavatelli, homemade pizza, and our tacos and enchiladas.
Finally, I used Target gift cards to my advantage. I had $10 in Target gift cards from the Glade candle promotion I had told you about a couple days ago. I had paid $5 for 10 Glade candles and received $10 in Target cards back. So I had an additional $10 to take off my total today!
It can be overwhelming when you start couponing and may seem like more work than it is worth. But I promise the first time you walk out of a store with a cart full of food and having only spent half of your normal grocery budget, you will be hooked!
Happy Shopping!
